A new heritage organisation created to protect, preserve and promote Shetland’s endangered straw crafts while supporting the revival of traditional grain varieties, such as Shetland Aets and bere.

Encouraging Community Practice

Shetland Straw Society has already helped bring Shetland straw crafts to a wider audience.

Our successful programmes of winter workshops has gone from strength to strength over the past few years, originally delivered in partnership with Shetland Amenity Trust.

The classes have proved highly popular, attracting participants from across the community.
